Job Summary

Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Medical Technologist to join the Serology and Immunology team. This role involves performing high-level serological testing procedures to meet client needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a comprehensive range of routine to moderately complex diagnostic testing in the Serology & Immunology Laboratory on a rotational basis.
  • Closely follow detailed testing protocols, with strict attention paid to all steps, as well as reagent lot numbers, expiration dates, inventory status, calibration status, and QC results.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues; escalate to Lab Management when appropriate.
  • Actively uphold the established Quality Assurance System.
  • Adhere to and monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other laboratory quality documents.
  • Participate in daily lab care; prepare reagents; assist to maintain laboratory chemical and supply inventories; perform lab organization, disinfection, and disposal of biohazardous waste.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Animal Science, Medical Laboratory Science, or other related science, with up to two years of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time at lab benches, workstations, or while using laboratory equipment or instrumentation.
  • Experience using manual and automated pipettes.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of diagnostic immunology.
  • Experience with performing ELISA and/or similar serological technologies.
  • Experience working within an organization with an established Quality Assurance Program.
  • Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems.
