LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE
Position Overview:
The Licensed Practical Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering direct patient care across various healthcare settings, including private residences, hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor patient health by assessing vital signs, tracking dietary intake and output, responding to patient requests, and conducting regular rounds.
- Administer direct care, which includes managing colostomies and tracheotomies, preparing medications and meals, inserting feeding tubes, catheterizing patients, and executing other nursing tasks as directed.
- Document and manage medications and treatments, noting any changes in patient conditions or behaviors, responses to care, and daily activities.
- Provide injections and oral medications as prescribed by the physician and collect specimens for laboratory testing.
- Educate patients and their families on managing medical needs, including catheter and colostomy care, bowel programs, insulin administration, personal hygiene, and skin care.
- Assist physicians in clinical settings by gathering patient information, preparing patients for examinations, aiding in medical procedures, and transcribing orders.
- Communicate daily updates to the next shift regarding patient progress, behavioral issues, and new directives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
This role may require working varying shifts or hours outside of standard working times and may involve being on call. Physical demands include lifting and positioning patients, walking, and managing aggressive behavior when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of nursing principles and practices is essential. The ability to provide direct patient care, observe and assess patient conditions, and instruct patients in routine medical care is critical.
Qualifications:
A diploma or certificate from a state-approved practical nursing program is required. Additional qualifications may be necessary as determined by the agency.
Licensure:
Candidates must hold a valid Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the appropriate state nursing board.
