POSITION OVERVIEW


The Lead Electrical Systems Engineer is tasked with developing comprehensive electrical schematics and specifications for the approval and construction of new or renovated retail establishments or other commercial properties, as well as for capital improvement initiatives within those sites.

This role also involves the evaluation of electrical construction documents created by external consultants to ensure alignment with the client's established criteria and collaborating with clients to refine existing design standards for enhanced efficiency or cost savings.

In executing these responsibilities, the electrical engineer must ensure that all electrical design components are effectively integrated with other building systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties

1. Conduct thorough reviews of electrical plans and specifications produced by external engineering consultants to verify compliance with established criteria.
2. Develop complete electrical construction documents, select and size electrical power distribution systems, and detail the arrangement of equipment within designated electrical/mechanical areas.
3. Ensure coordination of electrical designs with the client's mechanical, refrigeration, and automatic temperature control systems, as well as other building fixtures.
4. Collaborate with external architectural or MEPR teams to align electrical designs.
5. Work with utility companies to ensure appropriate design, selection, and placement of metering devices and switchgear.
6. Prepare and distribute comprehensive electrical installation bid packages.
7. Perform on-site assessments to document existing electrical systems and provide recommendations for reuse or replacement.
8. Address and resolve issues related to equipment quality, delivery, and installation in conjunction with project managers, procurement teams, vendors, and contractors.
9. Conduct inspections of new installations to ensure adherence to plans and specifications, issuing reports on deficiencies and coordinating with project managers for resolution.
10. Collaborate with clients to update existing design standards for improved performance, cost efficiency, and quality.
11. Willingness to travel as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
8+ years of experience in electrical engineering design within a retail construction environment
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required
Prior experience with retail environments and refrigeration systems preferred
Ability to analyze and provide constructive feedback on electrical plans for enhanced performance and cost-effectiveness
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including direct client engagement
Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and relevant building regulations.
Proficiency in AutoCAD required.
