As a key member of our team, you will provide legal counsel and support to our investigators, ensuring that all investigations are conducted thoroughly and in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel to OSI investigators, ensuring that all investigations are conducted in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Draft and review investigative reports, ensuring that all allegations have been fully addressed and all necessary documentation has been obtained and reviewed.
  • Conduct comprehensive searches of the OSI database and provide assistance and support to the DOE's Administrative Trial Unit.
  • Handle requests for documents pursuant to FOIL, discovery demands, and subpoenas.
  • Confer with Department of Education subject matter specialists and technical experts.
  • Conduct research and prepare legal briefs and memoranda on education law issues.
  • Review complex, important, or highly technical laws, rules, or regulations.
  • Act as liaison with executives within the DOE and at other City agencies.
Requirements
  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar.
  • Public sector experience is preferred.
  • Overall knowledge of the NYC school system and ability to advise and render legal opinions on educational policies and practices.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated.
