Operations Manager Position Overview:

Collaborate in the formulation, execution, and assessment of business strategies aimed at minimizing expenses and enhancing profitability while maintaining superior service quality and safety standards.


Oversees all distribution functions, including:

Safety protocols, Shipping logistics, Inventory management, Replenishment processes, Accuracy in order selection, Labor benchmarks, Utilization of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Slotting strategies, Workforce optimization, Profit and Loss accountability, Management of returned or damaged goods, and Comprehensive inventory oversight.

Accountable for the prompt and efficient delivery of products to clients, achieved through meticulous planning and continuous monitoring of driver performance, equipment condition, and business volume.

Responsible for guiding all team members and reaching departmental objectives as defined by the VP of Operations and Senior Leadership.


Key Responsibilities:

Develop procedures that enhance the efficiency of the operations department, enabling it to operate at peak productivity levels.

Address operational challenges and navigate various variables in scenarios with limited standardization. Evaluate work-related situations and make informed decisions effectively.
Refine operational strategies and processes based on insights from the food distribution sector.
Establish and uphold communication protocols between shifts.
Build strong relationships with clients and ensure the distribution center meets their requirements effectively.
Conduct regular departmental meetings with staff.
Manage departmental operations within budgetary constraints. Supervise the organization of warehouse inventory on a quarterly and annual basis.
Implement training programs that align with production needs while adhering to collective bargaining agreements.
Ensure team members are equipped to utilize tools and technology effectively.
Foster positive relationships with union team members and representatives by addressing their concerns.
Oversee truck leasing agreements.
Recruit management and support personnel.
Consistently engage in labor standards per department to ensure accurate reporting.
Collaborate with HR to develop effective safety initiatives.
Review all incident and accident reports, providing root cause analysis.
Ensure uniformity in safety training, retraining, and disciplinary measures across all operations.
Champion a zero-incident safety culture.
Conduct physical inspections of facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with local, state, and OSHA regulations.
Support team member development by providing updates on evolving work rules and compliance issues.

Enhance team member skills by leading initiatives to implement training and communication processes that promote ongoing learning and professional growth.

Maintain comprehensive records of driver compensation, equipment maintenance, and performance metrics.
Review driver logs and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies and DOT regulations.
Closely monitor equipment to guarantee safe operation and minimize breakdowns.
Assess routing and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal efficiency.
Verify vendor invoices and complete accounts payable vouchers.
Monitor trip records and fuel reports for mileage, fuel costs, and fuel efficiency.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required.
Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
A minimum of five years of relevant experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong managerial and supervisory capabilities.
Extensive knowledge of operations and production management.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and MS Excel.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Able to stand for extended periods.
Understanding of customer service principles and quality standards.
