Position Overview

The Laboratory Technician 1 plays a crucial role in the pre-analytical management of laboratory samples and/or in the collection and preparation of specimens for diagnostic testing. This position involves executing straightforward tasks and conducting tests under the guidance of supervisory personnel.

Organize, confirm specimen labeling, enter orders, and distribute samples. May conduct Point of Care Testing (POCT). Responsible for drawing blood samples from patients, ensuring records are accurate, and preparing specimens for laboratory examination. Guarantees that specimens are correctly identified, collected, labeled, and stored appropriately. May initiate laboratory tests in a timely and precise manner. May clarify collection procedures and offer patient instructions to ensure the correct collection or preparation of specimens, enhancing patient and caregiver understanding while minimizing anxiety. Adheres to established personal protective equipment protocols to safeguard against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials. Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned. Maintains a safe and hygienic working environment. May assist with patient registration or provide courier services.

Required Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: No prior experience required. Licenses/Certifications: Certification in Phlebotomy.
