Job Overview

Under general supervision, this role oversees and directs nursing and administrative operations, activities, services, and personnel for Santa Clara Valley Healthcare (SCVH). The incumbent is accountable for the standards of care, practice, and quality governing nursing operations. This position possesses the authority for recruitment, retention, education, and oversight of nursing practices across all designated clinical areas.

Responsibilities

The Chief Nursing Officer will lead and manage the clinical and patient-care standards of the nursing department. Reporting to the Hospital Executive and guided by the Chief Nursing Executive of the SCVH System, the role includes:
  • Directing operations and patient care across various departments including Critical Care, Emergency Services, Perioperative, and others.
  • Ensuring safe, timely, effective, and patient-centered care that integrates well with clinical disciplines.
  • Planning, organizing, and evaluating services, goals, policies, and staff functions.
  • Implementing and monitoring programs to ensure quality and compliance with regulations.
  • Providing administrative guidance and serving as a liaison with medical staff and ancillary services.
  • Identifying educational needs of staff and developing relevant training programs.
  • Collaborating with leadership for strategic planning and operational management.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates should possess a master's degree in nursing administration, public or business administration, healthcare administration, or a related field, along with a California Registered Nurse License. A minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience in a large health system, including two years in an administrative or supervisory capacity, is required.
