Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Transit Mechanic and Transportation management, the successful candidate will support the upkeep and servicing of transit buses and other designated vehicles. Responsibilities include assisting in diagnostics and repairs, as well as maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in diagnosing and identifying mechanical issues in transit vehicles.
  2. Understand the operation and benefits of various machines and tools.
  3. Conduct repairs and maintenance on fleet vehicles as required.
  4. Transport vehicles, equipment, and supplies to various locations daily.
  5. Help inspect and assess the transportation fleet to ensure vehicles are clean, safe, and operational.
  6. Perform routine preventative maintenance, including washing equipment.
  7. Engage in physical activities such as moving, climbing, lifting, and balancing.
  8. Communicate effectively with drivers, supervisors, and management personnel.

Physical Requirements: The position involves physical exertion, including walking, lifting (up to 75 pounds), standing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and assisting customers.

Knowledge and Skills: Candidates must be eager to learn diagnostic techniques for identifying mechanical faults, whether manually, visually, or through computer systems. A solid attendance record is essential, along with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks. Quick identification of mechanical issues and proactive problem-solving skills are crucial. A positive and professional work environment must be maintained.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Arizona commercial driver's license (Class B) with passenger endorsement within 18 months.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

Working Conditions: Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Flexibility to work varying schedules, including weekends and holidays, is necessary. The role involves sitting for extended periods and requires constant movement of the head, arms, hands, and feet.
