Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  • Collect and process specimens as directed by the provider, ensuring proper handling, storage, and tracking.
  • Ensure patient care areas are adequately stocked with medical supplies and equipment, and maintain a clean and organized environment.
  • Prepare patients for scheduled procedures, ensuring they are properly gowned and instruments are set up.
  • Arrange for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services, completing necessary paperwork and scheduling appointments.
  • Under the direction of the provider, track, review, and monitor follow-up of diagnostic test results, relaying information to patients and families.
  • Prepare and administer vaccines, medications, and controlled substances/narcotics as prescribed by the provider, asking screening questions and observing for appropriate responses.
  • Document and process prescription requests and refills per protocol.
  • Perform basic office procedures, examinations, and/or tests ordered by the provider, demonstrating competence in skilled areas.
  • Provide patients with standard patient care instructions and education, reviewing with patients and families as directed by providers.
  • Obtain comprehensive health information from patients and families to review with providers or clinical resources, assisting in determining urgency for care or alternative venues.
  • Complete pre-visit planning and visit prep according to established guidelines, obtaining comprehensive health information and updating the EHR.
  • Efficiently manage daily patient flow, prioritizing tasks and activities delegated by the care team, including in-basket management.
  • Take ownership in office function/process improvement under the direction of your supervisor.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information, completing annual WSH Corporate Compliance and other mandatory education.
  • Support the provider during visits and patient exams, collecting and entering information in the patient record, carrying out orders, and completing post-visit patient care education and instructions.
Requirements
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma) or National Medical Assistant Certification upon hire required.
  • Basic Life Support upon hire required.
  • Completes all required education programs and competency testing needed to perform at an advanced level upon hire required.
  • Medical terminology upon hire required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient communication skills, including SBAR technique.
  • Ability to effectively present clinical information to the care team.
  • Proficient in navigating and entering information into an electronic health record.
  • Models teamwork.
  • Self-motivated and dependable.
  • Able to work independently.
