Job Title: Medication Aide

Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Medication Aide to join our team at The Gardens, a vibrant community where our senior residents thrive with dignity and joy. As a Medication Aide, you will play a vital role in ensuring the optimal care of our residents, dispensing medications accurately and timely, and providing compassionate support in a quality customer service environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assure residents receive optimal care according to their needs and medications are dispensed appropriately, timely, and accurately.
  • Provide care and assistance to residents in a compassionate, quality customer service environment that preserves dignity.
  • Set up medications and pass them to residents following established policies and procedures.
  • Perform narcotic counts at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Order medications from pharmacy following community policies.
  • Check MAR's for errors following community policy.
  • Call residents' families to bring in medication as needed if applicable.
  • Pull expired medication or discontinued medications, prepare for drug destruction.
  • Administer treatments, take vital signs, and weigh residents.
  • Document/charts on residents' changes and unusual occurrences.
  • Document medical changes and orders on MAR per Dr. orders.
  • Ensure lab work, faxes, physician orders, and medication orders are completed and filed according to community policies and procedures.
  • Schedule doctor appointments as needed.
  • Admit new residents per community policy.
  • Assist residents with showers, grooming, dressing, and toileting as needed.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living as described on individual care plans.
  • Assist with basic cleaning and maintenance issues when needed.
  • Clean up after incidents in a timely, efficient manner while maintaining the dignity of the resident.
  • Assist residents who have fallen providing safety, security, and compassion.
  • Escort residents to and from the dining room as needed.
  • Pick up laundry from residents' apartments as needed and transport to laundry room.
  • Assist in serving meals and beverages and taking meal orders as needed.
  • Answer call lights with patience and compassion following company guidelines.
  • Listen to residents with empathy and assurance. Follow up with appropriate personnel regarding resident concerns.
  • Make rounds on residents to ensure their safety and provide assistance as needed.
  • Call Health Services Director, doctors, and families to inform of any change in condition, incidents, medications, etc. as needed.
  • Attend meetings/in-services/training sessions as required by Health Services Director and/or Executive Director.
  • Maintain confidentiality of residents' personal information in and out of the community and protect and support residents' rights.
  • Communicate with residents, families, visitors, and employees in a positive manner using excellent communication skills.
  • Provide tours to potential residents and families that show how the residents' individual needs can be met and promote the concept of care in the community.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor that encourages a positive, nurturing environment for the residents, families, vendors, and guests.
  • Ensure excellent customer service by maintaining open and honest communication, answering phone promptly and professionally, and ensuring residents, families, physicians, and other employees' needs are met.
  • Ensure adequate daily coverage for meal service by communicating with the Culinary Services Director and/or Host/Hostess, to include taking resident orders for meals, providing drink refills according to residents' / guests' requests, assists with the cleaning, resetting and preparation of the dining room in-between meal times.


Requirements:

  • Interpersonal skills to communicate with residents, staff, and families.
  • Must show compassion and genuinely care for the elderly and disabled.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the location of the SDS sheets on hazardous materials and able to understand the guidelines.
  • Must be able to work independently and prioritize workload as emergencies arise.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations with residents, families, visitors, and other staff.
  • Must have knowledge and skills to administer medications safely.
  • Demonstrates a SERVANT heart and attitude by following our Mission Statement.


Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Certification in medication administration and CPR/First Aid as required per state regulations.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:
Moderate physical activity required by handling objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently. Must be able to stoop, bend, and reach. Must be able to lift residents in excess of 100 pounds with assistance.
