Pediatric Orthopedic Care Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Pediatric Orthopedic Nurse Coordinator to join our team. This individual will play a critical role in improving continuity of care for pediatric orthopedic patients, coordinating early post-discharge check-ins, and expanding clinician accessibility by managing and triaging incoming patient issues. The successful candidate will also assist in establishing a subspecialty clinic in limb deformity, providing high-quality care to patients with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Pediatric Orthopedic Division

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients, providing general information and facilitating communication between patients and providers after outpatient clinic visits and surgical treatment.
  • Conduct post-discharge and post-surgical telephone follow-ups to ensure patients receive necessary care and support.
  • Address or triage patient communications received via MyChart or telephone calls, ensuring timely and effective resolution of issues.
  • Communicate test results with patients after review by providers, providing clear and concise information.
  • Assist with medication refills and changes, as well as obtain preapproval for medications and testing ordered by providers.
  • Complete work excuses, return to work forms, and preoperative clearance letters after discussion with providers.
  • Coordinate orthotic referrals for families, particularly those with clubfoot.

Limb Deficiency Clinic

  • Attend clinic with providers and meet with patients at the time of visits to coordinate surgical plans and ensure patient understanding.
  • Provide pre-procedure instructions and assist with device teaching for patients who receive an external frame or internal implant requiring ongoing management.
  • Schedule and coordinate all appointments, changes in protocols, and tests ordered by providers, ensuring timely follow-up and communication.
  • Be the primary point of contact for patients, providing general information and facilitating communication between patients and providers.
  • Work with research staff to ensure proper follow-up and data collection for relevant studies.
  • Ensure appropriate pre-op work-up is arranged and timed accordingly.

  • Provide courteous and pleasant interactions with patients, utilizing proper telephone etiquette and warmly greeting visitors.
  • Verbally express appreciation when ending conversations with callers.

Interactions with Other Staff Members

  • Be generous in assisting and supporting others, participating in covering telephones and assisting other faculty and staff when needed.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff, responding to requests from coworkers or other departments in a mutually agreed-upon period.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a registered Nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related discipline preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
