Position OverviewThe Patient Access Specialist will serve as a liaison between patients, payers, and healthcare team members, facilitating patient tracking and billing by obtaining and verifying accurate demographic information, securing financial responsibility, and collecting out-of-pocket payments. This role requires excellent customer service skills, a working knowledge of MS Office, and fluency in English.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA, and other hospital regulations
- Provide exceptional customer service, understanding customer needs and building quality relationships
- Answer telephones professionally, record messages, and communicate with medical staff
- Obtain and verify demographic information, insurance benefits, and authorizations
- Maximize collection efficiency and accuracy by pursuing collections at the time of service
- Scan registration and clinical documentation, maintain medical records, and assist with patient transfers
- Respond to medical record requests and maintain a clean working environment
- High School Diploma or GED, required
- 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience, required; 2 years preferred
- Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred
- Knowledge of various insurance plans and payors, required
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and excellent customer service skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office, strongly preferred
