Position Overview

The Patient Access Specialist will serve as a liaison between patients, payers, and healthcare team members, facilitating patient tracking and billing by obtaining and verifying accurate demographic information, securing financial responsibility, and collecting out-of-pocket payments. This role requires excellent customer service skills, a working knowledge of MS Office, and fluency in English.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA, and other hospital regulations
  • Provide exceptional customer service, understanding customer needs and building quality relationships
  • Answer telephones professionally, record messages, and communicate with medical staff
  • Obtain and verify demographic information, insurance benefits, and authorizations
  • Maximize collection efficiency and accuracy by pursuing collections at the time of service
  • Scan registration and clinical documentation, maintain medical records, and assist with patient transfers
  • Respond to medical record requests and maintain a clean working environment
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED, required
  • 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience, required; 2 years preferred
  • Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of various insurance plans and payors, required
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and excellent customer service skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, strongly preferred
