Pediatric Pharmacy Technician Role Overview

Michigan Medicine is seeking a skilled Pediatric Pharmacy Technician to join our team on weekends. As a Pharmacy Technician in our pediatric acute care setting, you will play a vital role in providing patient care activities and supporting our pharmacists in delivering high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticals
  • Prepare sterile products, injections, and IV chemotherapy
  • Fill automated dispensing cabinets on nursing units
  • Correctly distribute and account for controlled substances usage
  • Deliver medications to nursing units, including surgical rooms
  • Stock medications shelves, manage inventory dating, return excess stock to inventory, and properly dispose of expired medications
  • Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols
  • Respond and triage telephone and electronic message inquiries
  • Assist the Pharmacist with auditing controlled substance utilization
  • Build various medication kits, providing support to many different professions
  • Assist with training of staff
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor to assist with preparation and delivery of patient medications

Requirements:

  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, manual dexterity movements
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
  • Proficient communication, computer, and basic mathematical skills
  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability

Work Schedule:

Positions on days, afternoons, or MN shifts are available for work on weekends only. Opportunity for 8-hour shifts (days or afternoons), 10-hour shifts (Midnight), or 16-hour shifts (combined days and afternoons) on weekend days may be accommodated.

Modes of Work:

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
