Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

As an IT Specialist (INFOSEC), your primary duties will include:

  • Acting as the main advisor on all aspects of information system security, ensuring that the operational security posture is effectively maintained.
  • Managing the implications of information security across the organization, which includes overseeing a specific portfolio of systems and addressing policy enforcement, emergency planning, and security awareness.
  • Coordinating with both internal teams and external agencies to prepare and develop the necessary Authorization Package.
  • Reviewing and commenting on System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes and Assessment and Authorization documentation from a security standpoint.
  • Ensuring that appropriate security controls are integrated during the SDLC phases, maintaining integrity, confidentiality, and availability.
  • Incorporating security requirements into procurement actions and ensuring that Statements of Work include the necessary security language.
  • Assisting the information system owner in formulating security policies and procedures.
  • Advising senior leadership on changes that may impact the information assurance posture of systems or networks.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess specialized experience that demonstrates the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the role. Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the CU/GS-12 level in the public or private sector.

Specialized experience is defined as:

  • Providing guidance to IT system owners regarding compliance with IT security and preparing assessment and authorization packages.
  • Developing security requirements for the acquisition of new information systems.
  • Offering advice to leadership on IT security policies, procedures, and the overall security posture of business information systems.

Additionally, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following IT Specialist competencies:

  • Attention to Detail: Thoroughness in work and conscientiousness in detail orientation.
  • Customer Service: Engaging with clients to assess needs and provide quality service.
  • Oral Communication: Effectively conveying information and listening to others.
  • Problem Solving: Identifying issues and evaluating alternatives to make informed recommendations.
