Ice Rink Maintenance Technician

Position Purpose:

At XL Center, we strive to provide exceptional ice conditions for all our events. Ice Resurfacer Drivers are essential to maintaining the highest standards of ice quality by performing scheduled resurfacing and other crucial ice maintenance tasks. This includes setting up and dismantling the hockey ice surface.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Arrive promptly for each scheduled shift, dressed in uniform and ready to work.
  • Be flexible with your schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Understand and follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Maintain physical stamina to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours), kneel, stoop, climb stairs, and reach/lift above your head while performing ice maintenance tasks.
  • Take ownership of ice resurfacing, edging, and overall ice quality.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including blade changes, exercising sound judgment to ensure tasks are completed correctly.
  • Contribute to a clean and safe work environment by maintaining, cleaning, and safety-checking all machines and surrounding areas.
  • Monitor refrigeration equipment, keep accurate records and logs, and promptly inform the Ice Operations Manager of any malfunctions.
  • Assist in preparing the ice before and after events, and set up the game day ice crew area.
  • Work efficiently and safely to meet all deadlines.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Collaborate effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Perform other duties assigned by your supervisor.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ice Resurfacing staff must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to demonstrate their proficiency in performing the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using alternative combinations of skills and abilities.
  • Prior experience working in an ice rink setting is preferred.
  • Comfortable interacting with large crowds.
  • Proficient in operating a resurfacer with an intermission rider.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Two years of experience operating ice resurfacing equipment is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with ice edgers and forklift equipment is beneficial.
