Job Summary

As a Press Feeder Operator at TSG - The Sheridan Group, you will assist the Operator in the production of heat-set web printed materials and maintenance of web presses. This role requires a strong understanding of machine operations and printing techniques, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and understand work orders to ensure correct substrate, bind type, ink color, and run lengths.
  • Order substrate considering the needs of the oncoming shift.
  • Set up stacker and bundler to send adequate and well-identified bundles to the bindery.
  • Understand substrate weights, PPI, size, grain direction, coating, marking, and storage.
  • Load correct substrate into the machine while tracking slab-off, waste consumption, and return weights.
  • Learn all phases of the press operation.
  • Ensure bundles conform to bindery needs, including proper identification.
  • Dispose of waste properly, including printed and blank substrate.
  • Stack and wrap skids safely before leaving the press area.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with machine repair.
  • Exercise initiative, ask questions, and look for ways to improve productivity.
  • Keep the area safe and clean.
  • Adequately communicate with the oncoming shift.
  • Perform end-of-shift duties, leaving the area ready for the oncoming shift.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as work orders, workplace and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic math skills, including addition and subtraction, and ability to use a measuring device.
  • Basic problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office, Flex, and PrintStream at a beginning level.
  • Effective email and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to work with various tools and machinery, including pallet jacks, paper turning discs, knives, pallet wrap holders, vacuum lifts, plate benders, plate carts, hand tools, grease guns, and air hose nozzles.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently and 20 lbs. constantly.
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 lbs. in all directions.
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to occasionally perform listed activities, such as ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
