Project Kuiper is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at deploying a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites designed to deliver high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity to underserved communities globally. In this capacity, the Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and integration of Ka band and S/C band communication payloads, as well as customer terminal systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the architecture and overall communication system design for Project Kuiper's broadband wireless network.
  • Lead the development of innovative technologies and solutions for communication systems.
  • Design and implement advanced L1/L2 proof of concept hardware/software systems to enhance the performance and reliability of the Kuiper LEO network.
  • Utilize digital signal processing concepts to create novel solutions for achieving ultra-high performance in LEO networks.
  • Oversee the integration and verification of various hardware and software subsystems as part of system integration and link verification.

Specific Duties:

  • Collaborate with systems and algorithm teams to define, develop, implement, test, and release FPGA-based modem solutions.
  • Develop customized testing solutions to generate and capture real-time waveforms, with a preference for experience in software-defined radios.
  • Work closely with implementation teams to evaluate and simulate expected system-level performance, providing feedback for potential enhancements.
  • Integrate link-layer protocols seamlessly within the network stack in collaboration with PHY and Network teams.
  • Document and architect algorithms for time, frequency, and space acquisition and tracking, including understanding Doppler compensation techniques.
  • Contribute to development-test procedures using Linux, Python, and bash scripting.

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as refugees or granted asylum.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in wireless communications at the system or implementation level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD with a focus on broadband wireless or wireline communication systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of multiple access systems such as OFDMA, TDMA, and CDMA.
  • Experience with test automation and scripting languages like Python, Perl, or Matlab.
  • Familiarity with software-defined radios and embedded programming in C/C++ and VHDL/Verilog.
  • Understanding of Ethernet protocols such as IP, UDP, TCP, and HTTP, along with analysis tools like Wireshark.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team environment, exceeding expectations to deliver results.
  • Experience with current software development processes and tools, including Agile methodologies, TDD, BDD, CI, and Git.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of end-to-end network system architecture from the wireless physical layer to application endpoints.
  • Implementation experience with wireless synchronization and parameter sensing techniques.
  • Background in wireless communication systems or digital signal processing, with a passion for developing carrier-grade communication systems.
  • Experience with lab test equipment such as channel emulators and spectrum analyzers.
  • Proven track record of leading technical initiatives and delivering key project outcomes.

Compensation:

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across various U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,800/year in our lowest geographic market to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is determined by several factors, including market location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
