Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Vascular Sonographer to join our team at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing a variety of procedures involving the use of high frequency sound waves to investigate the internal aspects of the body.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate equipment to obtain clear recordings of specified sections of the body.
  • Assist radiologists and/or vascular surgeons in interpretation by describing anatomy, anatomical location, and acoustic characteristics of each film or computer report.
  • Generate computer reports on all arterial studies, containing previous studies and pertinent history or surgical reports.
  • Maintain a daily log of vascular patients and prepare annual and monthly statistics of examinations performed.
  • Schedule in-patients and out-patients for vascular examinations and consult with referring physicians regarding clinical history.
  • Maintain and test equipment to ensure reliability and obtain timely repair service if required.
  • Develop and present instructional programs of technical vascular procedures for ultrasound, medical, and nursing staff.
  • Coordinate quarterly vascular quality assurance meetings and distribute minutes to attendees.
  • Apply for ICAVL accreditation and maintain current accreditation.
  • Participate in evaluation and selection of new ultrasound and vascular equipment.
  • Stay up-to-date with new developments, techniques, and equipment in the ultrasound field through attendance at courses, seminars, and review of professional publications.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or two-year certificate program in Ultrasound.
  • Two years of experience as an ultrasound technologist with one additional year of experience performing vascular examinations.
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification within one year of hire.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, occasional sitting, and walking, lifting of 30-35 lbs., pushing, and maneuvering equipment.
  • Manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate echo equipment and computer keyboard.
  • Ability to see echo screen and reports.
Skills and Abilities
  • Medical terminology.
  • Clerical skills.
  • Proficient in OB/GYN, small parts, venous, carotid, abdominal ultrasounds, and procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.
