Job Description

About the Position:

This Regulatory Compliance Specialist position supports the Department of State, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, Directorate of Defense Controls (DDTC). The DDTC works to ensure commercial exports of defense articles and defense services align with U.S. requirements and advance U.S. national security and foreign policy objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate registration of exporters, manufacturers, and brokers under ITAR requirements.
  • Review registration information to ensure compliance with relevant statutes.
  • Facilitate review of mergers and acquisitions involving registrants.
  • Resolves routine matters related to company registration and requests for change in registration.
  • Reviews license requests held due to suspected or alleged violations of export control laws.
  • Takes initial action on voluntary disclosures from the defense industry.
  • Writes summaries of incoming voluntary disclosures.
  • Reviews cases involving violations of the AECA or ITAR and plans an approach.
  • Performs record searches, reviews, and analyzes license approvals.
  • Produces comprehensive reports to support criminal investigations.
  • Participates in the Company Visit Program through periodic travel to selected defense companies.
  • Maintains a list of parties debarred from participating in the export of defense articles and services.
  • Monitors compliance cases involving statutory debarment.
  • Engages with the CFIUS process.
  • Reviews requests for advisory opinions on the application of the ITAR.
  • Reviews compliance issues arising from various contexts and takes action as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a regulatory or policy compliance role
