Purpose Statement:
The role of the Special Education Classroom Support Technician involves assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with significant disabilities under the guidance of a certified teacher. Responsibilities include observing and documenting student progress, supporting communication devices, implementing educational and behavioral plans, and providing for special health care needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adapt classroom activities and materials as directed to ensure all special education students can participate in essential instructional programs.
- Provide daily living assistance and personal care to students, including medical and non-medical support.
- Collaborate with educators to achieve students' Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
- Implement academic instruction tailored to individual or small groups, covering subjects such as cooking, math, reading, and music.
- Maintain instructional materials and student records to ensure accessibility and accuracy.
- Monitor students in various settings to promote a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participate in training sessions and meetings to enhance job-related skills and knowledge.
- Document personal care and behavioral service logs for compliance and reporting purposes.
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned to support the efficient operation of the educational unit.
- Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing job conditions. Competencies include record-keeping, safety adherence, and first aid administration.
- Knowledge: Basic math skills, reading comprehension, and understanding of child development stages are essential.
- Abilities: Capable of scheduling activities, analyzing data, and using job-related equipment. Must demonstrate flexibility, effective communication, and teamwork.
- Work under direct supervision following established procedures, with opportunities to influence the organization's educational services.
The role requires physical demands including lifting, carrying, and significant mobility. The position involves a mix of sitting, walking, and standing, performed in conditions that may expose the individual to risks associated with injury or illness.
