Job Title: Registered Nurse 1, NICU

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse 1, NICU (Nights) to join our team.

About the Role:

The Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) is a full-performance level nurse position that provides direct nursing care to individuals in accordance with Article 139 of the Education Law. Under the general direction of a higher-level registered nurse or licensed healthcare provider, the successful candidate will independently provide direct nursing care, supervise nursing care activities, and provide clinical supervision and training to Graduate Nurses (T&RC), Teaching & Research Center Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Administer medications, perform treatment procedures, and monitor individuals' conditions.
  • Record and maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and nursing care plans.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and revision of individual care plans.
  • Modify nursing care plans based on individual condition and responses to care and treatment.
  • Triage individuals by inquiring about illnesses, injuries, and symptoms, and record findings and observations.
  • Assess findings and initiate appropriate remedial action or refer individuals directly to a physician in emergency cases.
  • Provide education and counseling to individuals and families regarding health, medications, procedures, and treatment goals.
  • Ensure compliance with established infection control policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.
  • Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and 1 year of relevant clinical experience.
Work Schedule:

Variable Days; 7:30pm to 8:00am (Full-Time Nights)

Salary and Benefits:

As per civil service guidelines, the salary range is $101,264 to $122,056 based on years of experience and education, plus shift and/or inconvenience pay of $575 to $5,375, if applicable.
