Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Advanced Practice Provider to join our dynamic cardiothoracic surgery team at the Medical University of South Carolina Health. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with physicians and management to provide direct patient care, case management, and practice development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Patient Care: Provide comprehensive care to cardiothoracic patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including postoperative care on hospital wards.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Interact directly with attending physicians, residents, and medical students to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Procedure Performance: Perform therapeutic procedures, such as vein harvesting, chest tube placement, central line placement, and arterial line placement, in accordance with approved privileges and skill level.
  • Referrals and Consultations: Initiate referrals to other healthcare providers and consult with attending physicians or collaborating physicians as needed.
  • Documentation and Billing: Accurately document and bill for direct care provided.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality and performance improvement activities, as well as clinical research.
  • Professional Development: Maintain licenses, certifications, and continuing education requirements, and participate in professional organizations.
Requirements
  • Education and Licensure: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program or Nurse Practitioner program, and current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Certifications and Registrations: Certification in Basic Life Support, and DHEC and DEA license applications submitted prior to the first day.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform job functions while standing, walking, and sitting, with continuous requirements for physical stamina and dexterity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: PA or ACNP with RNFA experience, preferably with a surgical fellowship and two years' surgery experience.
  • Certifications: ACLS certification for adult surgery.
