Job Summary

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to fill the role of Education Program Teacher. This position involves working under the guidance of an Education Program Administrator to deliver educational services to adjudicated youth that align with the Arizona State Academic Standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructing youth in academic, vocational, and social skill development in both group and individual settings
  • Assigning relevant schoolwork to youth
  • Keeping accurate daily/weekly classroom attendance records
  • Ensuring completion of daily assignments by students
  • Planning and executing instructional/learning activities in compliance with state and local performance criteria, as well as administering assessments to measure student progress
  • Participating in teachers' meetings
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of concepts and curriculum related to the assigned subject
  • Knowledge of federal and state education statutes, rules, and regulations
  • Knowledge of effective teaching methodologies
  • Knowledge of state Academic Standards
  • Maintaining confidentiality
  • Effective classroom management
  • Implementing differentiated instructional strategies
  • Adjusting academic tasks as needed
  • Collecting and analyzing data
  • Evaluating students' academic and behavioral progress
  • Communicating effectively both in writing and verbally
Requirements
  • Must hold a current valid Teachers Certification issued by the Arizona Department of Education relevant to the subject being taught
  • Possession of a valid Emergency Teacher, Adult Education, or Substitute Teaching Certification from the Arizona Department of Education may also be deemed acceptable based on teaching and instructional responsibilities
  • Any employee driving a vehicle for State purposes must have and maintain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete mandatory training, and pass all required driver's license checks
  • State employees driving for work are subject to driver's license checks, must uphold acceptable driving records, and must complete all prescribed driver training
  • Employment hinges on the selected candidate passing a thorough background check, behavioral assessment, and drug screening
