Controller - Real Estate Finance

Macdonald & Company is seeking a highly skilled Controller to join their team in Charlotte, North Carolina. The ideal candidate will have experience in the real estate lending industry and be able to perform day-to-day accounting and tax responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee loan servicing activities, including review of borrower bank statements, financial statements, and covenant compliance certificates.
  • Review loan set up in the system upon closing of a new loan, ensuring all terms are set up correctly and match documents.
  • Coordinate with paralegal closing coordinator through the closing process.
  • Prepare partial loan paydown letters, payoff letters, and release of collateral.
  • Coordinate preparation of loan documents with lender legal counsel and review.
  • Communicate anticipated sales and paydowns with equity group.
  • Coordinate loan amendments as needed.
  • Keep electronic files organized and filed currently in Egnyte data storage folders.
  • Prepare lender closing invoice and review and approve HUD closing statements.
  • Facilitate communications and keep deal team, borrower, and private equity team updated on status throughout the closing process.
  • Coordinate with treasury group for funding initial loan proceeds at closing.
  • Prepare default letters, reservation of rights letters, and other communications as required.
Accounting and Tax:
  • Oversee monthly invoicing/billing process.
  • Oversee accounts payable process.
  • Year-end reporting, including 1099s.
  • Monthly financial statement preparation and review.
  • Quarterly tax estimates.
  • Ensure state filing requirements and obligations are met.

The ideal candidate will have excellent collaboration and communication abilities, and a keen attention to detail. They must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, have extensive knowledge of real estate loan documents, and have superb organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills. A B.S. degree in accounting and CPA certificate are required, with a minimum of 1-2 years of public accounting experience in audit and 5 years of experience in the real estate lending industry.
