Job Opportunity: Phlebotomist

This is a contract job opportunity with potential for permanent placement. The position is located in Shelby Township, MI, and requires a 9 AM-5:30 PM, Monday-Friday schedule with no weekends.

Job Summary

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection to patients.
  • Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required.
  • Checks test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
  • Packages specimens for transport and stores them according to required temperature.
  • Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attends annual department trainings and answers telephone calls, reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Requirements
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed.
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
