As an Engineering Manager, you will uplift your team, assisting in career development and goal achievement, identifying and addressing common team challenges, and coaching and mentoring potential future leaders within the company.

You will collaborate closely with stakeholders from product and design, as well as other engineering leaders, to ensure high-quality, consistent technology delivery for the digital engineering team.

What You'll Do (Management, Design & Development)

  • Directly oversee individual contributors or other Managers
  • Coach / mentor others in engineering methodologies, processes, and emerging technologies; empower team members to be independent, swift, and effective
  • Manage all HR responsibilities for your team, including compensation planning, promotions, expenses, and leave
  • Understand / promote the value of open and honest communication during 1:1 discussions
  • Lead significant initiatives within the team, including technical design / delivery of intricate features across multiple systems as H-E-B enhances customer and Partner user experiences
  • Contribute to the growth of Digital Engineering by driving execution of organization-wide activities
  • Develop technical roadmaps and guide engineers across one or more squads to deliver initiatives; leverage your understanding of business fundamentals to ensure technical roadmaps align with business opportunities
  • Suggest enhancements to overall application system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Identify opportunities to improve codebases and propose effective solutions to complex challenges
  • Recommend modifications to processes and tools at the group / department level based on industry standards, patterns, and practices
  • Diagnose / troubleshoot highly complex issues
  • Create documentation and training related to technology stacks and standards
  • Step into individual contributor-level duties, when necessary, to provide guidance on code reviews or pull requests
Who You Are

  • You possess a relevant degree or equivalent formal training, certification, or work experience
  • You have 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer and have demonstrated successful leadership (of small teams)
  • You have expert knowledge of system architecture and design patterns
  • You possess deep knowledge of various technologies, including those utilized at H-E-B
  • You have an expert understanding of development methodologies and processes
  • You comprehend cross-technology stacks and their implications for scalability and reliability
  • You have technical expertise equivalent to the expectations of a Senior Engineer
  • You are skilled in multiple languages, technologies, and frameworks and can quickly integrate into projects with minimal time
  • You are capable of rapidly learning new technologies, processes, or business practices
  • You approach problem-solving holistically, considering solutions through a blend of technology and processes
  • You can coordinate work for a group of engineers on major initiatives
