About the Role

StepStone Group is a leading global private markets firm that provides customized investment and advisory solutions to sophisticated investors worldwide. As a Portfolio Management Associate - Data Science, you will play a key role in analyzing data, testing and implementing models, and producing output to manage liquidity and construct portfolios for diverse client needs, risk, and liquidity profiles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze data using MySQL and Python/R, with knowledge of PowerBI a plus
  • Build and analyze models using built-in functions and models developed from scratch in Python/R
  • Deploy models using a Django API in collaboration with the web development group
  • Communicate the output of models internally, including assumptions and limitations
  • Discuss the merits of models and analyses internally
  • Work independently and efficiently, developing big picture ideas and translating them into code and actionable model output
Requirements
  • Bachelor's, Master's degree, or Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Econometrics, or a related field
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of financial modeling and private markets
  • Deep understanding of statistical model building and data analysis; numerical algorithms expertise
  • Strong background in Python; experience in SAS, R, or Matlab; experience with Excel
  • MySQL or other database expertise
  • Knowledge of financial instruments and Bloomberg a strong advantage
  • Extremely strong attention to detail to maintain code and data integrity
  • Positive attitude and strong team collaboration
