Job Summary

The Southwestern College Police Department is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated College Police Officer to join our team. As a College Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff on campus. This is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on our community and contribute to the success of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol campus areas to prevent and detect crime, and to enforce college policies and regulations.
  • Investigate reports of criminal activity, interview witnesses and suspects, and collect evidence.
  • Respond to emergency calls, provide security escort services, and assist with traffic control.
  • Enforce parking regulations, issue citations, and ensure the safe movement of vehicles on campus.
  • Answer telephones, respond to inquiries, and provide information to visitors, students, and staff.
  • Participate in crime prevention efforts, prepare presentations on campus safety, and appear in court as a witness or arresting officer.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Currently enrolled in a California POST Basic Academy with at least 50% completion of total courses of instruction.
  • Ability to obtain a valid POST Basic certificate within one year of completing the POST Basic Academy.
  • Successful completion of Government Code section 1031 requirements and psychological, medical, and background investigation.
  • Certification in the use of various lethal and non-lethal weapons.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within the first year of employment, appropriate, valid first aid and CPR certification, including certification in Automated External Defibrillator.
  • Valid California driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Completion of P.C. 832 and 832.2 training.
  • Successful completion of the Southwestern College Police Department Field Training Program within the first year of employment.
Working Conditions

This is a non-telecommuting position. The job requires working in an indoor and outdoor environment, driving a vehicle to conduct work, and working evening, weekend, and holiday hours. The position also requires being on call during off-duty hours and working in adverse weather conditions.

Physical Demands

The job requires physical condition necessary for apprehension of suspects, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized police equipment, and the ability to operate motorized equipment and vehicles. The position also requires reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally, running and walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching, hearing and speaking to exchange information and give presentations, seeing to read a variety of materials, sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time.
