Job Summary

Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse to join our team. As a PICU Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to critically ill children and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill children in the PICU, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Perform various medical procedures, such as inserting IV lines, administering blood transfusions, and performing chest compressions.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and report any changes or concerns to the physician or other members of the healthcare team.
  • Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families, and facilitate communication between the healthcare team and patients.
Requirements
  • Current California RN license in good standing.
  • 2 years of recent experience in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) setting, with a focus on critical care nursing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work variable shifts, including days, nights, and weekends, and be willing to float between units (CVPICU & NICU).
  • Experience with ventilators, multiple monitors, specifically CVP and EKG, and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
Work Environment

The PICU at Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego is a high-acuity unit that sees a wide range of critically ill patients, including those with respiratory failure, shock, multi-system failure, poisonings, near drowning, meningitis, and post-operative cardiac surgical care. The unit is staffed by a team of experienced nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals who are dedicated to providing exceptional patient care.
