Job Summary

The Product Engineer is responsible for the selection, configuration, application, and pricing of PowerSecure's manufactured and purchased low voltage/medium voltage (LV/MV) products. This includes outlining specific drawing and other related documentation needed to define switchboards/switchgear solutions for submittal and manufacturing purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and commercial leadership for the development and sale of new product platforms and permutations that deliver competitive advantage in the market, meet financial/ growth goals, and exceed customers' performance and quality expectations at or below target costs.
  • Support Pricing by working with the Estimating Team to update and improve pricing tools used to price LV/MV solutions.
  • Process RFQs and negotiate pricing where applicable with LV/MV vendors for switchboard/switchgear solutions.
  • Support Marketing by providing marketing and technical documents.
  • Support Engineering through review of vendor switchboards/switchgear drawings ensuring accuracy and suitability for the application and distribution.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering to ensure that PowerSecure's switchboards/switchgear solutions are manufactured to the UL 891/UL 1558 safety standard and UL 891/UL 1558 file.
  • Support Procurement by working with Purchasing and Engineering to create drawings/specifications and Long Leadtime Bills of Material for each switchboard/switchgear being processed.
  • Review and approve, or disallow, substitution requests and change orders.
  • Respond to RFIs from vendors on switchboard/switchgear that PowerSecure purchases.
  • Support Product Development as required.
  • Participate as requested in company training events, applicable industry and product related training or certification classes and marketing – industry sector events. Travel as necessary to client projects, vendor, jobsite, and event locations (about 10% travel).
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 4+ years of combined work experience as a product engineer for another manufacturer, or other manufacturers, of UL 891 and UL 1558 LV and/or MV switchboard/switchgear.
  • Experience between manufacturing, test, and field services primarily focused on supporting LV/MV switchboard/switchgear is desired.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT.
  • Proficient with one or more EATON/ABB/Siemens and/or Schneider Electric's LV/MV pricing and configuration tools.
  • Familiarity with the UL safety standards for UL 891 LV switchboards and UL 1558 LV switchgear is desired.
  • Familiarity working with, and/or selecting, Schweitzer and/or Beckwith relays is desired.
  • Familiarity working with, and/or selecting, Intelligent GenSet Control platforms (ex: DIEF, easYgen) is desired.
  • Familiarity working with, and/or selecting, PLCs is desired.
  • Familiarity working with generator sets, transfer switches, backup power systems, and/or utility-connected distributed power generation and microgrid systems is desired.
  • Familiarity working with one or more of ABB's, EATON's, Schneider Electric's, or Siemen's LV/MV and circuit breaker product selectors and pricing tools is desired.
  • Familiarity working with one or more of ABB's, EATON's, Schneider Electric's, and/or Siemens LV/MV circuit breakers.
  • Ability to understand the differences between the various Ground Fault Protection Schemes [Zero Sequence, Residual (Radial), Ground Source Return, and Modified Differential].
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills required to define custom switchboard/switchgear product solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to act independently and resourcefully to solve problems and ensure high levels of technical accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to be flexible and discern appropriate plans of action when working on multiple tasks.
  • Implements and maintains engineering objectives and initiatives such as cost savings and complexity reductions.
  • Strong Code Interpretation and Application understanding (NEC, NFPA, IBC, etc.).
