Counselor - Substance Abuse Specialist

The Counselor I provides treatment and support to assist clients in their recovery from addictions, such as alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders, or other behavioral problems. This role involves assisting with modifying problem behaviors and providing counseling services to families of clients.
Key Responsibilities:- Participate in client treatment planning and continuum of care.
- Conduct group and/or family sessions, under supervision, as scheduled and document as required.
- Co-facilitate assigned group or family sessions and assist with modifying problem behaviors.
- Responsible for initial assessments, as well as follow-up assessments for clients.
- Prepare individual treatment plans for each assigned client.
- Ensure all documentation regarding client care, treatment, and incidents is completed timely and in a clear, concise manner.
- Act as a liaison between referral sources and clients.
- Provide crisis intervention to clients, as needed.
- Plan for aftercare for assigned clients.
- Act as a liaison with insurance carriers, as requested.
- Provide case management duties for clients, ensuring individualized quality care.
- Evaluate the need of the client and determine if referrals to other programs or facilities are needed.
- Provide client and family education relative to substance abuse/psychiatric problems.
- Conduct educational workshops both within the Facility and in the community as required.
- Serve as a liaison with self-help groups and EAP professionals.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of chemical dependence services required by the Facility treatment programs.
- Bachelor's degree in social or health services field required.
- Experience in counseling field instruction/internship or similar practicum through education or certification process required.
- Licensure or certification for counseling, as required by the state in which the facility operates; OR state license or certification eligible within the timeframe designated by the facility.
- CPR and de-escalation certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
- First aid may be required based on state or facility.
