Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at OSU Physicians, Inc. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our clinical providers.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Patient Care and Support
    • Act as a team player and medical support person, completing tasks after demonstrating competencies and following established guidelines.
    • Promote an efficient patient flow and assist the front office with patients, familiarizing yourself with clinic resources and escalating issues to managers and other team members when necessary.
  2. Data Management and Documentation
    • Manage the orderly flow of data, gathering and recording information accurately and according to standards, and show initiative to obtain all required information.
    • Record patient information, including family and social history, past medical history, history of present illness, and current chief complaint.
    • Ensure completion of documentation required by policy and procedure, as well as documentation required by programs and/or payors relative to visit type or patient's prior medical history.
  3. Communication and Interpersonal Skills
    • Practice good communication skills, providing information to providers or responsible individuals in an orderly and timely manner, and keeping patients informed of their stay.
    • Demonstrate a cooperative and positive attitude when assisting patients, and document all interactions with patients, including face-to-face and telephone conversations.
  4. Clinical Support and Maintenance
    • Clean and restock rooms after each patient has left, ensuring that supplies and equipment are in place for required exams.
    • Maintain exam rooms, nurse's station, and minor surgery areas with sufficient equipment, supplies, and cleanliness, and ensure compliance with current infection control standards.
  5. Equipment and Laboratory Testing
    • Pre-wash and sterilize surgical equipment, and report any malfunctions to the appropriate person.
    • Prepare specimens for laboratory testing, accurately labeling and recording results in the medical record.
  6. Administrative Support
    • Assist with inventory management, arranging referrals for patients, and administering certain medications and injections under the supervision of a provider.
    • Prepare vaccines logs and monthly reports, and ensure results and reports are brought to the attention of the provider with abnormal results prioritized.
  7. Mentorship and Training
    • Mentor medical assistant externs and/or new hire medical assistants during their introductory period.
