Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Welder/Fabricator is to weld metal components together using various arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, motors, and generators.

  • Welds metal parts together using gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • Passes hands on documented welding procedure.
  • Creates parts for products and facility use.
  • Reads assembly instructions.
  • Reviews drawings and blueprints.
  • Collaborates with supervisors on special projects.
  • Tests products.
  • Completes required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Operates company equipment (i.e., Forklift, Crane, hand tools) in a safe and efficient manner in the performance of all duties as required.
  • Complies with all company policies/procedures and performs all job functions in an ethical manner.
  • Completes all required safety training.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work area free of hazards as directed by supervisor.
  • Performs all applicable duties in accordance with ISO procedures, if required.
  • Performs other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor.
Job Requirements
  • Must pass all required pre-employment screenings - Background, MVR, Physical, and Drug screen.
  • Be able to comply with all drug and alcohol policies of Houma Armature Works and/or customer-sponsored programs. Subject to random Drug and Alcohol screenings.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends, if required.
  • Be able to operate motor vehicles in compliance with all state and federal requirements, if travel required.
  • Possess valid identification.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required training, in-house/offsite.
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification required.
  • Quick troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experienced welding/fabricating knowledge.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow work instructions.
  • Ability to interface with co-workers and customers.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines.
  • Team player attitude with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Additional Job Details

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
