Job Summary

This role is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of participants during recreational, fitness, and instructional swimming activities at the YMCA of the Suncoast.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision and maintain high safety standards during swimming activities.
  • Model all aspects of the YMCA's SMART pledge and create a nurturing and safe environment.
  • Report suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or violate the code of conduct.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the deck and locker rooms, and keep the deck clear of equipment.
  • Follow opening and closing procedures, engage in positive public relations with members, and know all emergency procedures.
  • Administer first aid and report all serious incidents.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings, and serve as a role model in pool safety.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years old and hold a current life guarding certification (Red Cross accepted).
  • Must possess effective communication and human relations skills, and be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must pass a swim and skills test annually, and be able to maintain continual physical endurance for 15-30 minutes of aerobic activity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Pool Operator, Life Guard Trainer, and Get SMART certifications.
  • Broad overview of the YMCA as it operates as a local, national, and international movement.
