Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist to join our team at Massachusetts General Hospital. As a CT Technologist, you will be responsible for preparing and operating CT equipment to acquire diagnostic images, providing patient care, and ensuring images are archived in the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare CT equipment by conducting warm-up, calibration, and quality control procedures to ensure safe operation.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Prepare the exam room by ensuring supplies are available for patient care and confirming locks are intact and documented daily.
  • Confirm CT orders are correct, the exam has been protocoled within department guidelines, and consult with Radiologists for any outstanding questions or concerns regarding an exam.
  • Perform venipuncture and Point of Care (POC) testing for purposes of contrast administration under the direction of a radiologist.
  • Coordinate all patient exams with orders, patient screening forms, Electronic Health Record (EHR), and patient's care team when applicable to ensure all factors for a safe quality exam are met.
  • Correctly identify and escort patient to CT scanner, assist patient onto scanner, review exam screening questionnaire, explain the procedure to the patient, and answer any questions while maintaining ethical standards.
  • Deliver patient care under the scope of license/training, demonstrating professionalism towards patients, their families, and staff.
  • Operate CT equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information according to department protocol.
  • Adhere to all infection control procedures, monitor patient condition during and immediately post-scan, and identify and escalate any adverse event.
  • Assist patient off the scanner and prepare them for discharge, arrange for or transport patients when necessary.
  • Complete exam documentation in EHR, transmit images to PACS, clean, and prepare room for the next exam.
Requirements
  • Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology or related field.
  • Must possess a current Massachusetts State Radiologic Technologist license and be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent.
  • Must be registered or eligible for CT certification by the ARRT or equivalent within the first year after the start of employment.
  • BLS required.
  • Advanced CT certification is required within 12 months of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of Radiography experience.
