About the Position

This is a challenging role within the Child and Youth Programs department, offering a guaranteed 35-hour workweek at the Pershing CDC. The position may require transporting children in a government vehicle. As a team leader, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the program, ensuring the safety and well-being of children and youth, and promoting a positive and engaging environment.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a team leader for program staff, responsible for the operation and program in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Accountable for the whereabouts and safety of children and youth.
  • Oversee the arrival and departure of children and youth.
  • Supervise children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years during daily schedules of indoor and outdoor activities, field trips, outings, and special events.
  • Work in ratio with children and youth.
  • Encourage participant interest and establish a program setting that promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth, and adults.
  • Monitor staff/child or youth ratios to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth.
  • Prepare and implement program options for children and youth with special requirements.
  • Work with trainers and supervisors to implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and youth.
  • Work with team members to prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules.
  • Assist children and youth with special projects, homework, and life skills.
  • Interact with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques.
  • Interact professionally with staff members, parents, supervisors, and volunteers.
  • Participate in conferences with parents, program staff, and other representatives (as applicable).
  • Brief other employees and parents.
  • Ensure children and youth depart with an authorized person according to written parental instruction.
  • Provide opportunities for parental involvement.
  • Instruct team members in specific tasks and job techniques; make available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
  • Explain program guidance, procedures, policies, and directives to team members.
  • Resolve problems and conflict situations or obtain information and guidance from supervisors.
  • Demonstrate proper work methods and provide work-related guidance to subordinates.
  • Model appropriate behaviors and techniques for working with children and youth.
  • Conduct on-the-job training and instruction for team members.
  • Ensure team members follow safety, fire, fitness, health, and nutrition procedures and inform supervisors of compliance concerns.
  • Relay instructions from supervisors, make activity assignments, and get work started in accordance with the daily activity plan.
  • Provide input to supervisors as requested concerning promotions, reassignments, performance appraisals, incentive awards, etc.
  • Observe program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse, or neglect and report as directed.
  • Arrange for/serves appropriate snacks/meals, where applicable.
  • Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies.
  • Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities.
  • Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data.
  • Uses designated evaluation materials to ensure assigned area is in compliance with AF standards and metrics.
  • Ensures assigned area achieves and maintains standards for DoD certification and national accreditation or equivalent.
  • Provides care/supervision to children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years.
  • Provides care/supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with AF and local policies, guidance, and standards.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and regulations applicable to AF Child and Youth Programs.
  • May be required to transport children in government vehicles.
  • Acts as manager in non-routine/emergency situations for purposes of opening/closing of facility.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
