Job Summary

The City of Tomball is seeking a highly skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our team. As a key member of our wastewater maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of technical and manual duties in the maintenance and repair work of City Wastewater Treatment Plants and Lift Stations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Repair Work: Perform a variety of basic maintenance assignments at City wastewater treatment plant and Lift Stations, including performing routine checks and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
  • Equipment Operation: Learn to operate automatic and manually controlled equipment, motors, and pumps used in wastewater treatment, and perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Chemical Management: Learn to regulate and control the amount of chemicals used to maintain specified wastewater treatment requirements, and perform routine checks and maintenance on chemical feeders and other plant equipment.
  • Sampling and Testing: Learn to take samples at established times, perform standardized quality control tests, and adjust chemical feeders and other plant equipment according to results.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Learn to make meter and chart readings, interpreting information to determine the proper operation of treatment equipment and influent and effluent conditions, and make regular assessments of water flow, turbidity, pressure, chemical use, residuals, temperatures, and other pertinent data to maintain proper plant operating conditions.
  • Problem Identification and Resolution: Observe pumping equipment to identify possible problems and operating difficulties, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Vehicle Operation: May operate a vehicle to travel for inspection and maintenance work, and perform routine vehicle maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Logistics and Inventory Management: Receive delivered materials, record shipments and store items, and maintain accurate records and logs of work performed, materials used, and other relevant data.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Collect samples and perform field chemical analysis to assure compliance with regulatory rules, and maintain accurate records and logs of quality control and assurance activities.
  • Cleanliness and Safety: Clean plant components daily to reduce order and maintain an environmentally safe and clean area, and follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records, logs, records, and reports on work performed, materials used, and other relevant data, and provide regular reports to management as needed.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Inspect and test components installed by contractors, and perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Tool Operation and Maintenance: Operate lathe, drill press, electric welder, hydraulic press, micrometer, milling machine, pipe threader, and various hand tools, and perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Emergency Response: Troubleshoot and operate emergency pumps and generators, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Design and Fabrication: Design and fabricate replacement parts and equipment, and perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Recording and Reporting: Maintain recording devices, and provide regular reports to management as needed.
  • Procurement and Inventory Management: May order necessary parts to maintain equipment or construct replacement parts, and maintain accurate records and logs of procurement and inventory management activities.
  • After-Hours Response: Perform weekend plant checks, and respond to after-hours callouts as needed.
  • Training and Certification: Complete Industrial SWPP training and certification process, and maintain current certification and training as required.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Two years in wastewater collection and/or treatment plant operations.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Must have 'C' license or better in wastewater, and must obtain and maintain a 'B' license in Wastewater within one year, 'C' license in Ground Water is also preferred.
  • Driver's License: Current and valid Class C Texas Driver's License with driving record that meets City guidelines required.
Salary and Benefits
  • Hiring Range: $41,808 - $43,909 ($20.10-$21.11)
  • Salary Range: $41,808 - $62,712
