Job Title: Principal Electrical Design Engineer

WSSC Water is seeking a highly skilled Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of electrical systems for new and renovation projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop electrical systems for large complex projects, including electrical distribution systems, electrical power systems, and lighting systems.
  • Oversee and lead the preparation of contract documents for in-house designs, including electrical plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Review and approve consultants' reports and designs, as well as contractors' submittals.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee a wide range of multi-disciplinary, multi-faceted engineering activities, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering.
  • Consult with various internal divisions and sections, manufacturers, suppliers, consultants, and contractors to ensure that electrical systems meet the required standards and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults and prepare reports on electrical design, construction, maintenance, and operation issues and problems.
  • Oversee and lead the development and revision of design guidelines, equipment criteria, construction standards, details, and specifications dealing with electrical equipment and service.
  • Participate in the formulation of long-range facility plans and system improvement projects.
  • Prepare electrical cost estimates for in-house engineering projects.
  • Participate in the general preparation of project budget estimates.
  • Attend necessary meetings and hearings and follow through on recommendations.
  • Drive a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 6+ years experience in the principles and practice of electrical engineering.
  • 2+ years electrical engineering design experience.
  • 1+ year experience in planning and directing electrical engineering projects.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, with no more than 4 points, and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver's permit within 90 days of hire or transfer.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Maryland. If candidate has P.E. license in another state, candidate must obtain Maryland registration within 12 months of hire or transfer.
  • Completion of the WSSC Water Financial Disclosure statement within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years electrical engineering experience with industrial facilities.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
