Job Title: HVAC Technician

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to join our team at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across our campuses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, repair, and maintain HVAC systems, including hot water and steam heating systems and chilled water cooling systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance procedures on HVAC pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC control systems; diagnose control problems and overhaul various building pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC control systems
  • Utilize testing equipment to check controls and balance air flow
  • Read blueprints, plan drawings, and write drawings to complete assignments
  • Perform sheet-metal work and duct and diffuser installation
  • Operate and maintain centrifugal chillers and steam absorption chillers
  • Clean, maintain, safely operate, and properly store all tools and equipment
  • Observe and enforce all safety requirements related to equipment operation
Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
  • Five years actual work experience and training, including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training, in the trade
  • Ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings, and wiring diagrams
  • Skill in maintenance and use of tools, equipment, and materials of applicable trade
  • Ability to grasp, lift, maneuver, rotate, and otherwise use small to large trades tools and equipment
  • Ability to grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy objects
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding
  • A valid driver's license is required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three or more years of experience installing, repairing, and/or replacing pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control systems according to design drawings and/or specifications
  • Experience with Honeywell control systems
  • Experience with heat pumps
