Key Responsibilities
Oversee management, policy, and implementation support for the Transportation Directorate as it carries out its mission related to defense transportation, distribution, and force movement policy.
Specific Duties Include:
- Support for Transportation Programs
- Facilitate interagency initiatives and ensure the secure movement of arms, ammunition, and explosives
- Coordinate and communicate Department of Defense (DoD) installation access requirements for commercial carriers
- Address DoD surface transportation matters concerning commercial rail and highway transport
- Provide policy oversight for national surface transportation readiness programs
- Draft responses to external inquiries, including DoD Inspector General, Government Accountability Office audit reports, and Congressional correspondence
- Assist in the development and reporting of performance metrics
- Oversee DoD Customs processes
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of DoD, Service, and Combatant Commands transportation organizations
- Collaborate closely with other DoD staff elements, the Joint Staff, and USTRANSCOM to ensure the robustness of DoD's Strategic Transportation policies and programs
- Conduct research and provide analysis, reports, studies, recommendations, and data analysis to support senior-level meetings and working groups
- Manage compliance with DoD Issuances, including directives and instructions, while maintaining concurrence on other relevant DoD, Joint, and Service issuances
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Master's degree required.
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience within the DoD.
- Prior experience at USTRANSCOM or its Component Commands, or within Service Headquarters Logistics Staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical abilities.
- An active security clearance at the TOP SECRET level or the capability to obtain one; U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
Desired Skills:
- Graduate of a Senior Service school.
