Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Bus Driver to join our team at Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. As a Bus Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.

Responsibilities:

Operate a school bus in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all traffic laws and district policies.
Provide a safe and positive riding experience for all students assigned to your bus.
Immediately report any incidents, collisions, or job-related injuries to the prescribed guidelines and procedures.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and report any mechanical problems or damage to the bus.
Load and unload students from the bus, following prescribed guidelines and procedures.
Establish and maintain good rapport with students, parents, school personnel, and coworkers.
Perform emergency evacuations of students on the bus, if necessary.
Attend in-service training, required meetings, and safety training as required by the department.
Complete required online compliance and cybersecurity training as required.
Maintain accurate and updated records, as required.
Check the mailbox and email on a regular basis.
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with all appropriate endorsements and classifications.
Must have a satisfactory driving record, as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Must pass an annual physical, as required by state law.
Must show negative results on a drug and/or alcohol test, as required by federal law and district policy.
Must have completed or be enrolled in the School Bus Driver Certification course, developed by the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Must maintain certification, as required.
Must successfully complete the School Bus Driver Training Program, provided by the district.
Must be physically able to climb in and out of the bus emergency door, to evacuate the bus in an emergency.
Must be able to speak, read, and understand the English language.
Must demonstrate professionalism in communications and interactions with children/students, parents, school personnel, and coworkers.
Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Must have effective reading, writing, and mathematical skills to complete necessary forms, reports, and interpret maps.
Must be able to effectively manage student behavior.
Must be able to safely operate the bus.
Must follow district policies and Transportation Services guidelines and procedures.

Working Conditions:

The Bus Driver will be required to perform tasks such as sitting, twisting, and bending. Work positions will include kneeling and climbing, with extended reach above head and extended reach in front of body. The Bus Driver will be required to load and unload the vehicle, lifting and pulling up to 20 pounds on a hand device while operating the service door, opening and closing 15-60 times per shift. The Bus Driver will be required to operate the vehicle in all climatic conditions, up to 7 1/2 hours per day on established routes. The Bus Driver will be required to climb in and out of the bus, through the service door, 5-15 times per shift. The Bus Driver must be able to pass a mandatory Department of Transportation Physical, which includes the following:
*Diabetes - have no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes Mellitus currently requiring insulin for control
*Hypertension - Blood pressure maximum 160/90
*Vision - have distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye with or without corrective lenses or visual acuity separately corrected to 20/40 (Snellen) or better with corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70 degrees in the horizontal meridian in each eye and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green and amber.
*First perceive a forced whispered voice in the better ear not less than 5 feet with or without the use of a hearing aid, or if tested by use of an audiometric device, does not have an average hearing loss in the better ear greater than 40 decibels at 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz with or without a hearing aid when the audiometric device is calibrated to American National Standard (formerly ASA Standard) Z
