Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics, as well as specialized education and experience in diagnostic cardiac sonography.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing Echocardiography examinations, coordinating and directing activities in the Echo Lab, and providing training to staff members. They will also be responsible for maintaining standards for patient safety and infection control, reviewing final reports for accuracy, and attending Non-Invasive Cardiology Conference and assigned reading sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform 2D, Doppler, M-mode, color flow mapping, exercise, and Dobutamine echos to produce accurate and appropriate anatomic and physiologic information for physician review.
Prepare preliminary interpretation and/or interpretative review of the examination to provide input in the evaluation of the data and to contribute relevant technical information.
Obtain pertinent clinical information from the patient, referring physician, or patient's record to obtain comprehensive and diagnostic non-invasive diagnostic procedures to the patient.
Prepare appropriate billing for each patient (CPT/ICD-9).
Maintain standards for patient safety and infection control for the Echo Lab.
Provide training in the proper function of the ultrasound systems, performance of transthoracic echocardiograms, procedures, and processes of the Echo Lab.
Assure upkeep of equipment and initiate requests for supplies and equipment repairs.
Review final reports for accuracy and completeness before filing.
Attend Non-Invasive Cardiology Conference and assigned reading sessions.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED.
Bachelor's degree in science preferred.
5-7 years' experience as a cardiac sonographer.
ARDCS - Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Current Registration (or working toward registration) or CVT (Certified Vascular Technologist) Current Registration (or working toward registration).
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support.
