Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic individual to join our Testing team as a Senior Test Engineer specializing in Energy Storage and Distribution Systems. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in the development and assessment of critical components and subsystems essential for our VTOL electric aircraft. Our team is composed of highly skilled, proactive professionals who thrive in a dynamic and challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with Battery Management System (BMS) firmware engineers to conduct comprehensive verification and validation tests on battery packs, focusing on algorithm performance metrics such as State of Charge (SoC) and State of Energy (SoE).
  • Formulate detailed test plans and procedures, ensuring robust instrumentation and data collection methods to guarantee consistent and repeatable test outcomes.
  • Execute acceptance testing on battery packs intended for flight integration and compile necessary documentation for flight articles.
  • Work in conjunction with the battery design engineering team and fellow test engineers to conduct various environmental compliance tests on battery packs, including thermal cycling, humidity exposure, vibration, and electromagnetic interference assessments.
  • Design and implement long-term durability tests to evaluate the mechanical integrity of battery pack structures.
  • Conduct characterization, qualification, and reliability assessments on battery pack components, such as contactors, connectors, fuses, and printed circuit boards (PCBs).
  • Analyze test data to generate comprehensive reports, providing actionable insights to the battery design engineering team for design optimization.
  • Lead and coordinate test-related meetings, including kickoff sessions, preparation discussions, and data review meetings to ensure alignment on testing activities.
  • Maintain the battery testing area and equipment, adhering to best practices in documentation and safety protocols.
  • Assist in the incremental automation of testing setups for battery packs and BMS functionalities.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with relevant experience in battery pack technologies.
  • Proven experience with high-voltage and high-power systems.
  • Familiarity with power electronics systems used in electric vehicles.
  • Experience in conducting environmental stress tests, including thermal and humidity cycling, vibration, and electromagnetic interference.
  • Solid understanding of battery monitoring techniques, failure modes, and safety protocols related to high-voltage systems.
  • Strong skills in data management, analysis, and presentation.
  • A collaborative mindset with a positive attitude and a commitment to teamwork.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Organizational skills to maintain a clean workspace and inventory of tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Battery Management Systems hardware.
  • Familiarity with testing standards such as DO-160, DO-311A, SAE, and MIL-810.
  • Knowledge of battery pack cycle testing equipment.
  • Experience with high-voltage Lithium-ion battery systems.
  • Proficiency in instrumentation and data acquisition tools.
