Unity Health Toronto, a renowned health network, is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Inpatient Mental Health Unit. As a key member of our inter-professional team, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing care to patients and families with complex mental health issues.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide holistic, evidence-based, culturally appropriate, patient-centred quality care in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario standards and SMH's mission, vision, values and policies.
  • Optimize patient care outcomes by being accountable for one's decisions and professional practice, establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient, collaborating with other members of the patient's care team, and coordinating and communicating patient care activities.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans, engage in critical inquiry and reflection to select evidence-based interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care and adjust as needed.
  • Provide health education to patients and their families using effective teaching strategies, document observations, assessments and care provision, and contribute to discharge and transition planning.
  • Collaborate with other professionals and disciplines in a team environment, participate in hospital committees and other groups, and engage in self-reflection, performance review and ongoing learning.
  • Participate in or support research projects, support and participate in evidence-based practice implementation and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Current General Class (Practicing) Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification, or willingness to obtain certificate within 6 months, preferred.
  • Recent clinical experience in a mental health setting is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the care of patients with severe mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the Mental Health Act of Ontario.
  • Demonstrated excellent assessment and crisis intervention skills.
  • Canadian Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing certification preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professions/disciplines in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven planning, time management, organization and coordination skills.
  • Excellent attendance record is required.
