Ultrasound Technologist

Under the general direction of the Radiology Manager, the Ultrasound Technologist will perform Ultrasound testing and treatment in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Ensures adherence to proper infection control, OSHA, and safety standards.
- Complies with established safety precautions at all times.
- Participates in discharge planning, development, and implementation of patient care plans, patient assessments, etc., as necessary.
- Interviews patients or family members as necessary.
- Performs administrative requirements, as directed, such as completing necessary forms, reports, and data input, filing, and faxing.
- Ensures safety and comfort of patients while going to and from the Ultrasound Department and Radiology Department.
- Coordinates US and radiology exams with other departments.
- Performs Ultrasound exams on patients as necessary.
- Briefs patients or family members on procedures involved in Ultrasound exams and prepares necessary equipment.
- Maintains a current file of patients treated on an in-patient/out-patient basis.
- Acts as receptionist to patients for the Ultrasound and Radiology Department.
- Recommends equipment and supply needs to the Radiology Manager.
- Ensures that the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner for patient comfort and convenience.
- Reassures patients before and during Ultrasound exams.
- Prepares patients for exams by dressing/positioning and administers radiology exams in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Coordinates with other facilities to retrieve or send radiographs or reports.
- Assists in the distribution of transcribed radiology reports.
- Acts as a preceptor for new team members.
- Participates in patient education, including family members when appropriate.
- Participates in continuing education.
- Performs other duties as assigned, needed, or required.
- Education level equivalent to completion of high school, and completion of an accredited radiological technology program and/or Ultrasound program.
- Completion of an accredited radiological and/or Ultrasound technology program.
- Must have and maintain a current BLS CPR, and be able to satisfy State of Georgia, TJC, and Federal licensure Requirements, or the equivalent thereof.
- As of January, must be Ultrasound registered or supervised by a registered Ultrasound Technologist. If unregistered by ARDMS or ARRT, must be working toward certification for registry.
- Six months to one year experience in healthcare/Ultrasound is preferred.
