Job Summary:

As a Cardiothoracic Surgical Assistant at Mercy Medical Center Redding, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Under the general supervision of surgeons and clinical supervision, you will assist in surgical procedures, manage inpatient care, and provide preoperative and postoperative evaluations. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring that standards of care are met and that all required daily checks and chart documentation meet standards. You will also be responsible for daily calls to patients and overseeing the day-to-day operation of the function.

Responsibilities:

Performs comprehensive and problem-focused history and physical exams.
Diagnoses and treats common conditions and provides follow-up care within scope of practice.
Orders, collects, performs, and interprets appropriate laboratory or diagnostic procedures and studies.
Exercises judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising physician or other healthcare professionals.
Orders, prescribes, and administers medications according to California State Law.
Provides documentation according to department standards.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited PA Program approved by the California Board of Medical Examiners.
At time of hire, licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of California.
Current BLS for Health Care Providers and ACLS certifications.
Experience with all and proficiency in endoscopic vessel harvesting (EVH).
Experience in cardiothoracic surgery (first and second assisting, opening and closing suturing surgical wounds & wound care).
Experience in critical care (ICU) management – advanced understanding in pleurovac and chest tube management.
Experience in performing invasive procedures (including but not limited to central vascular access, Swan Ganz insertion, dialysis catheter insertion, IABP insertion, chest tube insertion, thoracentesis).
Experience with endoscopic radial artery harvesting (ERAH).
Experience with Thoracic Robotic First Assistant education.

Preferred Qualifications:
