We are seeking a highly skilled Agriculture Compliance Specialist to join our team at the Georgia Department of Agriculture. As a key member of our Food Safety Division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and wholesomeness of food in Georgia.
Job Summary:This position is responsible for conducting inspections and investigations of retail food stores, grocery stores, convenience stores, bakeries, seafood operations, salvage food operations, and mobile meat trucks to ensure compliance with state and federal health and food sanitation laws, rules, and regulations.
Responsibilities:- Conduct random, unannounced inspections of regulated firms to ensure compliance with established state and federal health and food sanitation laws, rules, and regulations.
- Collect food and water samples during inspections and review sanitation practices and product labels.
- Assist with the implementation of programs to detect specific diseases in cooperation with state, federal, and industry standards.
- Provide consultation, information sharing, technical assistance, and in-service training to food and dairy personnel regarding health and food sanitation, rules and regulations, and their enforcement.
- Reports compliance findings to FDA, USDA, and others.
- Completion of a bachelor's degree in agronomy, animal science, biology, chemistry, or a related field/area.
- Certification as a registered sanitarian or environmental health specialist.
- Two years of professional experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance with established state and federal health and food and/or milk sanitation laws, rules, and regulations.
- Certification as a registered sanitarian or registered environmental health specialist by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).
- Working knowledge of Windows computer operating system and applications.
Standing for long periods, lifting 50 lbs, intermittent periods of walking, squatting, kneeling, or driving, and exposed to the outdoor elements for extended periods.
