Job Summary

International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) is seeking a skilled Mechanic II to join our team in Memphis, TN. This role involves working in a high-performance, fast-paced industrial production environment, requiring rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays.

This position typically works an eight-hour shift, but other schedules may be required based on business needs. The successful candidate will support the achievement of plant objectives by maintaining manufacturing or packaging equipment at required operating levels, adjusting or replacing parts as necessary to facilitate repairs and equipment changes.

The Mechanic II will be responsible for:

  • Installing and aligning new equipment
  • Gathering and processing data from multiple sources related to electrical and mechanical failures
  • Service, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical issues
  • Performing preventative and predictive maintenance on equipment as assigned
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining PLCs and VSDs
  • Installing and aligning pump couplings and V-belts, installing bearings, and connecting motors and starters
  • Maintaining, replacing, and rebuilding process and utility equipment
  • Planning, assembling, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical fixtures and wiring
  • Testing and repairing fire alarm systems, water and gas distribution, fuel oil, cooling tower, and compressed air systems
  • Removing and replacing electric motor heaters and removing and installing centrifuges
  • Measuring vibrations and performing advanced soldering, acetylene cutting, and welding
  • Performing pipe fitting layout, installation, and repair work
  • Packing steam valves and installing pump packing
  • Removing and replacing valves and inspecting and troubleshooting pump systems
  • Inspecting and replacing hoses and blowout panels
  • Using basic hand and power tools and shop equipment competently
  • Performing preventative and predictive maintenance on equipment as assigned
  • Troubleshooting mechanical failures and repairing mechanical issues
  • Gathering and processing data from multiple sources related to electrical failures
  • Verifying job completion and machine functionality before turnover
  • Executing assigned work orders and accepting a minimum of 60% of call-ins
  • Performing PLC 2 and 5 programming
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting using Allen-Bradley T-3, T-50, T-47 shop computer
  • Testing and repairing fire alarm systems, water distribution, fuel oil, gas distribution, cooling tower, and compressed air systems

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial maintenance, trade school, technical institute, or related environment
  • MUST pass a Skill Demo Test administered by the company

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Working knowledge of pumps, conveyors, pipe fitting, welding, and motor-controlled circuits
  • Ability to wear job-specific personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to operate computers and other computerized control systems
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to hot and cold conditions
