Job Title: Child Support Technician I

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of Texas children and families? Do you have excellent communication and organizational skills? We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Child Support Technician I to join our team at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG).

Job Summary:

The Child Support Technician I will perform a variety of tasks to support the Child Support Division, including case initiation, docket coordination, legal support, and technical assistance. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate cases on the Texas Child Support Enforcement System (TXCSES) and verify information for accuracy
  • Prepare cases for court, including filing pleadings and monitoring service
  • Coordinate and schedule paternity tests, process and distribute test results
  • Enter, retrieve, and update child support case information on TXCSES
  • Monitor TXCSES and other computer databases to identify new or updated locate information
  • Verify locate and employment information using all available sources
  • Perform money-handling duties to process child support payments
  • Prepare routine or periodic reports
  • Research court orders and respond to routine telephone inquiries
  • Assist with conducting seminars and interviewing custodial parents to gather additional information about absent parents
  • Scan and index documents and review and maintain child support virtual files for accuracy in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) repository
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; two years of college or university education may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
  • Experience in the Child Support Program, complex clerical, customer service, or secretarial fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location and perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak Spanish
  • Typing at 30 words per minute (typing test required at time of interview)
