Job Overview

As the Structures Engineering Manager, you will be instrumental in maintaining the structural soundness, regulatory compliance, and safety of our aircraft modifications. This role involves collaborating with the engineering team to support the design, analysis, and certification of various complex aircraft modification initiatives. A robust understanding of aircraft design principles and analytical techniques, as well as FAA structures certification regulations, is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and stress analysis team.
  • Provide engineering guidance from initial design concepts through to the completion of detailed design and analysis.
  • Evaluate engineering designs, including drawings and reports, for precision and thoroughness; ensure compliance with regulatory (FAA or other relevant airworthiness authority) and commercial standards.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Certification to facilitate supplemental type certificates and other regulatory or commercial projects.
  • Oversee and coordinate consulting engineers and firms engaged in engineering projects.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for engineering initiatives.
  • Align team capabilities to achieve the following five critical factors: Safety, Customer Satisfaction, Schedule, Budget, and Team Development.
  • Perform additional related tasks as required.
  • Maintain regular and dependable attendance in accordance with the established schedule.
  • Exhibit professional conduct with both internal and external business partners, reflecting positively on the organization and adhering to company policies.
  • Embody AEVEX's cultural values and align daily actions with departmental objectives and company ethos.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Familiarity with aircraft engineering resources such as MMPDS, Bruhn, Roark, etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of typical aircraft structures, including materials, processes, hardware, and composites.
  • Understanding of both airframe modifications and new airframe designs.
  • Thorough knowledge of 14 CFR Part 23 & 25 design, construction, and structural regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English (both spoken and written), and proficient in MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to lead engineering personnel and collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and management.

Leadership Skills

  • Direct and provide expert guidance in the daily operations of the department.
  • Identify, recruit, and retain top talent.
  • Promote AEVEX's culture and empower employees to take ownership of their roles and objectives.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the team, including overseeing onboarding for new employees and facilitating career development opportunities.
  • Establish performance benchmarks and foster employee engagement through delegation, continuous feedback, goal setting, and performance management.
  • Ensure transparent communication by appropriately sharing organizational information through departmental meetings, one-on-one discussions, and regular interpersonal interactions.
  • Provide oversight and direction to employees in line with AEVEX's policies and procedures.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience preferred; an MBA is a plus.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in aircraft structural substantiation, including Finite Element Analysis (NASTRAN FEMAP), traditional hand calculations, and report writing.
